A journey of terroir and time
Τwo sommeliers, one island, and a shared devotion to the art of wine
A bespoke wine selection for your stay. Thoughtfully tailored to your palate, the nuances of your private dinners, and the unhurried rhythm of your days in Crete. From sunlit afternoons by the pool to elegant evenings under the Mediterranean stars, every bottle is chosen to elevate your private sanctuary.
Great Wine Wisdom was born from a shared love — for wine, for storytelling, and for Crete. As a couple united by the same passion, we bring a rare dynamic to each experience — balanced, complementary, and genuinely engaged.
Crete was not simply chosen — it felt like recognition. Its ancient terroir, its warmth, and the quiet revival of Greek wine resonated deeply with both of us. In Rethymno, love and purpose aligned naturally, inspiring us to create private wine experiences that honour heritage while remaining contemporary, refined, and deeply personal.”
Lydia Passadaiou
Lydia was born in Athens and raised between continents — from the warmth of Ghana to the cultural crossroads of Brussels. Growing up in an international environment and within a family-owned vineyard, her connection to wine and people developed early.
Her path moved through wine education, boutique hospitality, luxury environments, and premium real estate, always focused on creating experiences that feel personal, thoughtful, and sincere. Fluent in five languages and holding WSET Level 3 alongside HESTIA certification for Greek wines, Lydia brings both knowledge and warmth, grounded in a deep respect for Greek terroir. Her work is guided by discretion, calm presence, and an instinctive attention to detail — the kind that quietly elevates moments without calling attention to itself.
Greek Women Wisdom
As an extension of her dedication to storytelling and female intuition, Lydia is also the founder of Great Women Wisdom and the author of She Pours the Whispers of the Vine. This elegant collection of poetry and prose is a gentle reflection on womanhood, heritage, and the quiet strength of the feminine spirit—an invitation to reconnect with your inner wisdom through the timeless language of wine.
Raphaël Mulligan
Born in France, Raphaël has spent over 20 years working across continents, from Europe to Oceania and now Greece, shaping a deep and intuitive understanding of wine, hospitality, and the stories each bottle carries.
A certified sommelier and WSET Diploma candidate, his journey has taken him from cellar work to leading roles in fine dining and luxury hospitality, always guided by a desire to create meaningful and well-executed wine experiences.
Crete became a natural point of focus in his journey. Its distinct terroir, long-standing wine heritage, and the evolving landscape of Greek viticulture offered both depth and perspective. Establishing Great Wine Wisdom was a natural continuation of this path — bringing together international experience with a clear sense of place.
His interest lies in exploring wines within their cultural and geographical context, with a particular focus on indigenous Greek varieties, the evolving identity of Mediterranean wine regions, and the origins of wine itself — from its earliest expressions in regions such as Georgia to its presence across the ancient world. This ongoing exploration reflects a broader philosophy: that wine, at its essence, is a balance between nature, time, and human intention.
His philosophy is simple: wine should be understood with clarity, experienced with curiosity, and shared with genuine ease.

Logo Explained
The symbol above our name draws its inspiration from the ancient scripts of the Aegean, particularly Linear A—the early writing system of the Minoan civilization. Undeciphered to this day, Linear A reflects a world where meaning was conveyed through form, rhythm, and balance. The mark is further grounded in Linear B, the later script through which records of goods—including wine—were first documented.
Reinterpreted in a minimal and contemporary way, the mark becomes a quiet dialogue between mystery and understanding. Its structure suggests balance, while the inner strokes subtly evoke the vine—a discreet reference to the living source behind every bottle.
Wine is, above all, about connection. We would be honoured to share our passion, knowledge, and the quiet beauty of Crete with you. Let us curate a moment that becomes part of your own story.
